No iPhone 5 in 2011?
Some things are aligning that appear to suggest Apple is changing the update schedule for both iOS and the iPhone. First a January/February launch of the Verizon iPhone 4, at the time it felt strange to launch an iPhone 4 model only 6 months out from releasing an entirely new model not to mention the fact the elusive white iPhone STILL has not launched but only last week was indicated it would still launch in the spring. Why would Apple still launch a white iPhone 4 only a couple of months shy of launching a new iPhone 5? Why would they launch an iPhone 4 on Verizon only 6 months from having to mark them down and cut production? What if the iPhone 5 isn’t coming until January/February 2012? That’s what it’s beginning to look like.
Take today’s announcement which appears to push the announcement of iOS 5 until WWDC in June. Normally the iOS event is in March-April, by pushing back 3 months until June I believe we are seeing the entire timeline to get pushed back for the next iPhone. I am up in the air about what it means for iPods since they typically are updated in September, however, we should have an idea in June if they will still update then dependent on if Apple continues to have their “Buy a Mac get iPod” promotion as they have for the last several years. If that happens then I strongly believe we see iPods updated in September and a new iPhone in late fall at the earliest or more likely in January/February 2012. Only time will tell!
